It's slow..but it's coming..

Oli loves Noah..

After the picnic

It's seems so slow to finally get here once you have been teased..Sunday was such  a tease..

It was the first really sunny day w/ scillas and snowdrops..and buds on trees..

It was the day Caramelle and Bécassine came to love with us..lol that is a typo and I am leaving it..live with us is what I had intended to write.

Alain brought his work of art/heart over w/ a friend's trailer and Frédérick helped him set it up..etc..
It..is the chicken coop Alain built for us..it is a mini version of his large coop..

the back corner here  was a busy place till almost 3PM..all 4 boys were there..Mylène came..she had been to the gym..Caroline came she had been running..I came.. I had been making muffins lol..and Jacques kept the boys company getting things that were needed along the way..

it is so cute..  I am leaving it natural..the climate in QC is not ideal for painting decks..wood..white etc..pretty soon the large shrub in back will be bushy, leafy and green..and that side part Alain and Noah are working on is a planter box..much too early to plant in it ..it will come..

Alain gathered everything we needed..even got the chickens and built it all..
Jacques and I both love it..and I gathered my very first warm egg..the next day..the temp was 32F..
I got up at 6.15 like  a farm girl..and they had not laid yet..I woke them up..they were upstairs sleeping;)

Not sure if you spotted the vintage bell..Alain bought that for us for the coop..just so cute..I hung a frame in their coop..laughs ..everyone laughed..I know they appreciate it:)

I'll show you an update when it is finished w/ flowers and shrubs filled in..

I won't show you Noah's hands full of worms..to give to the chickens..because the shot is so clear..you might feel queazy;)

The boys had a picnic..made discoveries in the secret garden..and did what boys do..get filthy.;)

Remember my tulip tip..well it didn't work w/ this mixed bunch

See..they drooped everywhere..same treatment..so I guess you just never know and no one is an expert;)

I named this bouquet Heather;)
Because..she knows better than me;)

By the way I made these..and they are delicious..from Dorie and Tutti Dolci..
How can you go wrong?:)
See the cut out? My taste test;)

since this is a food blog..I had better stick to the program..

Honestly..every moment/chance/second..I get..I am outside..when the weather permits..

so cooking takes a slight backstage..

and the gardens and girls become first and foremost..

I know I am posting early..but all of a sudden in QC..

everything happens at once..I can't skip a beat for this journal of mine..

The garlic is all up..

Who knew curly parsley was a perennial?Here..

Thyme..oregano..chives..lovage..rhubarb..all poking..up..

I have started seedlings and dahlias..and foolishly maybe..I have planted Ranunculus♥

Time will tell..

Right now..it's..

And FEATHERED FRIENDS .
Grateful.

  2. Do it..and with your climate you can have white and elegant..:) Go see Heather Bullard and her coop..it was a few years ago..

As for me..I kissed Alain..because Jacques can't do these things anymore..and he used to be able to do everything,so having Alain to have done this for us..brought on..such appreciation..

By the way..I used to be able to do more too;)
We love watching them..I fed them raisins today;)

    They munch all day long:)

  3. Oh my gosh, I laughed out loud when I saw the photo of the chicken's head peaking through the hole in the coop! How talented Alain is to make such a lovely small version of their coup for you. I am in awe! Love the farm bell and the little sign on the top - LOL. I hope we see lots of egg dishes in your future :) I see your have drifts of scilla just like here ♥ Wish they lasted longer! You will catch up in no time flat. You can tell you've lots of rain by the muddy legs :) Nothing planted here yet except for the peas. Soon, though! Glad your garlic came up - YAY!

He is talented.. and kind..and believe me this nana is grateful..so fun to watch Susan..you need one..the boys would flip.

  7. The boys look so happy and industrious! What glorious weather, beautiful chickens, wonderful flowers and amazing jam cookies! I hope you have more warm days soon. We've had rain and cold and had to turn the heat back on yesterday. Temperatures expected in the upper 80's this week. A roller coaster weather week here in Virginia!

  8. That is really exciting news about your own chicken coop. What will you have to do in winter for these hens? Move them indoors with you and Jacques? Ha-ha, that would probably not happen. Imagine you could have an egg hunt each day to see where they laid their eggs. My Scilla and snowdrops have finished here but they are always welcome sights. Your Scilla certainly has spread, mine is getting there. Like baking, I started late. I actually like your tulips drooping more than standing tall. More romantic looking to me. Enjoy the beginning signs of spring. Lilacs are ready to bloom and buds are on the crab apple trees.

    1. What a nice time of yr when we can get out..Jacques has made jokes about me having them indoors..it's so funny I just keep going over..chatting..Bonjour les filles..I love having them..made my first cake w/ my first eggs this AM..
Alain is taking them for the winter..he has a large coop and they do well in winter tere..this will be a Spring Summer and Fall thing for us..God Bless Alain lol:)
The hellebores made it..still small but they made it:) Grateful of that too..

all those scillas are in the secret garden..not ours..adj to here..
I have some but not like that..there are seas of them out back..so darn beautiful..soon the fiddleheads/ferns will pop up..
I like droopy too..I find upright too modern for my chintz love lol:)

    2. Now that is the best of both worlds, chickens till the tundra freezes over. It would not be easy taking water to them during the snow and icy season. Almost like being a sniwbird yourself and flying south for the winter. I'm so glad your hellebores made it! Just a few more years and you will have flowers. If you want more seed let me know...

      Delete
    3. It is the best of both worlds..he evn checks up on them....they are so easy..no walking them..lol..and I get 2 eggs every day..and to me they are pretty!

I will be so patient w/ the hellebores..I love taking care of plants..people..things..will take a pic raining now..

  11. Oh, lucky you with a coop and a hen! You'll have the best eggs ever!

Isn't it fun to see everything coming up? My herbs (oregano, thyme, parsley) are going great guns too and I suspect the mint is -- it has it's own area so it can spread at will. We're going at noon to get pansies and I've been trying to bring my old friends out of hiding to see if they wintered well. We'll see! And I love the tulips -- upright or droopy!

    Gros bisous 🌸

  20. Loved this post Monique! (I KNOW, I say that every time, but every post is my favourite and I love them!) Your hens, so lovely. I adore the picture of the one peeking out that hole. How curious! Your boys, so sweet and I love that they get along so well. I don't think my grandchildren see each other very often. Three different provinces. It is hard to get together at the same time. All are so far away that accomodation is difficult! Your garden is so beautiful. I love keeping up with all that is popping up and the way it evolves during the summer. So, so gorgeous! THose cookies! I have printed the recipe. Off the shops now to pick up a few last minutes goodies for the tea party! It is going to be so much fun! Wish you could be here! xoxo
